Jane L. @windsofjane

My whole life, I’ve had a passion for exploring the world around me, and I’ve been lucky enough to have been able to live my dream for the last 21 years.

I’m also blessed (and perhaps spoiled) to live in the beautiful province of Alberta, Canada – a gateway to any nature lover’s paradise.

As an outdoor enthusiast, I fulfill my love of nature by exploring the wonders of the Canadian Rockies all year long. Whether it’s hiking, snowshoeing, photography or road trips, the possibilities are endless.

What I’ve learned in my years of adventure is that the weather in Alberta and in the Canadian Rockies in general can change on a dime. In the past, we’ve experienced all four seasons on the same day. We can be applying sunscreen the same day as we're pulling out our puffy jackets because there are snowflakes falling.

Being prepared, having the right equipment and clothing, taking the necessary courses and training, conducting risk assessments, and knowing our limits all play a huge role in our adventures. Safety for us is non-negotiable and can’t be compromised.

One missed hike is not the “end all, be all” – we live to hike another day.

I’m also a foodie who loves dark chocolate and a good bottle of wine. After all, exploring takes a lot of energy 🙂 I'm also a huge advocate of the Leave No Trace Principles.

What are the best 3 words to describe yourself?

Adventurous, creative and energetic

Please share a short story about an important challenge that you've overcome (in your life, hobby, or profession):

I had vertigo issues many years ago. It affected my work and my personal life. I couldn't drive, get on the elevator or even sleep. My activities were limited to the point where I was depressed.

While vestibular therapy helped, I overcame this problem when I'm exploring the outdoors. For me, the best escape is to turn to nature and to challenge myself physically and mentally.
