Liz Norris

My name is Liz and I run in barrel races all across the western United States. Though I’m still a high school student, I have big ambitions for me and my horse, like going to college for college rodeo!

I grew up down south, living in Georgia for most of my childhood, but I moved to North Carolina for a few years and I’ve been in Colorado since August 2020. Living in Colorado isn’t easy to say the least. I was used to maybe eight inches of snow a year where I’m from but now we reach around 11-12 inches annually and lows as low as -40°F. Needless to say, it’s freezing and I’m not a fan, but the heated jacket definitely makes my outdoor life a ton easier!

While working outside during the winter, it is normally under 40° October through May, so my go to is the heated jacket. It gets me through all of my daily farm chores and rodeo days when they’re less than ideal.

What are the best 3 words to describe yourself?

Loyal, Kind, Determined

Please share a short story about an important challenge that you've overcome (in your life, hobby, or profession):

When I first started training horses, I got one that became fairly aggressive with my family. He’d lunge and bite at my family and I, but it wasn’t because he was an aggressive horse. He was frustrated and so was I, leaving us at an impasse. After months of solid work, he’s now the horse that I can put anyone on. I’ve even ridden him through a Starbucks drive through!
