Mike Plante

I have been a ski coach for 48 years, starting in the Catskills. I moved to Colorado in 1977. I have worked at Powderhorn Ski Area, Park City Ski Area, and currently at Winter Park in the Competition Center. I am also part owner of a ski equipment business.

I am an avid biker and have ridden the Erie Canal trail, the GAP trail, C&O trail and this past year the KATY trail.

Reason to join the ORORO Squad

I like the thickness of the vest and the placement of the heating pads.

What’s your favorite thing about ORORO?

The quality.

Please share a short story about an important challenge that you've overcome (in your life, hobby, or profession):

I was born with spina bifida and hip dysplasia. My father was a disabled veteran and made sure I was involved in sports growing up. Learning to ski was difficult but I kept at it. I joined PSIA when I was 27. When I was 28, doctors determined that I needed a hip transplant but I was too young. I continued to work as a ski coach and eventually earned my PSIA Level 3 certification. I had a knee replacement and hip replacement done but I am still teaching skiing at age 71.
