Warmth for the Long Days: How a Spine Surgeon Stays Toasty from the OR to Eight Overtimes

Dr. Betsy Grunch · Spine Surgeon · Gainesville, Georgia

Operating rooms are famously cold, and surgery days are famously long. For Dr. Betsy Grunch, a spine surgeon in Gainesville, Georgia, the day often starts before sunrise and ends well into the evening.

Where ororo Goes

“Pretty much everywhere,” Betsy says. “From early mornings heading into the hospital to football games, travel, outdoor events, and running around with my kids, ororo has become one of those things I grab whenever I know I’m going to be cold.”

The Night That Made Her a Fan for Life

Some games you remember for the score. Betsy remembers the Georgia–Georgia Tech game for the cold.

“It went to eight overtimes. It was one of the coldest football games I can remember, and we were out there for hours. I had my ororo heated vest on, and I’m not exaggerating when I say it was the only thing that saved me. Everyone around me was freezing, and I just kept turning up the heat. It was one of those nights where I became an ororo fan for life—because without that vest, I’m not sure I would have made it through eight overtimes!”

What Staying Warm Makes Possible

Heated gear stays off once she’s scrubbed in, but everywhere else it makes a real difference. “Anyone who works in healthcare knows hospitals can be freezing—especially operating rooms.”

“Being able to stay warm before cases, between cases, and after surgery helps me stay comfortable and focused so I can keep doing what I love—taking care of my patients.”

Her Go-To Gear: Women's Classic Heated Vest

“My heated vest is probably my go-to because it’s so easy to layer. I can wear it on the way to the hospital, under a coat, at a football game, or just running errands. You get the warmth without feeling bulky.”

“From cold days in the operating room to weekends with my family, ororo keeps me warm enough to keep showing up for the things I love—no matter how cold it gets.”
