Cold Weather Traveler: Jasmine C.

Waiting for the Sky to Come Alive: Chasing Auroras at -30°C

Jasmine Chen · Travel Creator · My Suitcase Journeys

“A core memory I’ll never forget is watching the pink and green auroras dance across Yellowknife’s midnight sky while staying toasty with ororo’s heated fleece jacket and a cup of hot chocolate in hand.”

Seeing the Northern Lights was on Jasmine Chen’s bucket list for years. When she finally went chasing them, first in Lapland, Finland and then in Yellowknife, Canada, she learned that aurora hunting is mostly waiting, outside, in the dark.

“Staying warm is absolutely crucial when it comes to spending hours outdoors in -30°C/-22°F, waiting for the sky to come alive,” she says.

Notes from the Road

Yellowknife, Canada. Pink and green lights across the midnight sky, a heated fleece jacket and hot chocolate in hand. This is the one she’ll never forget.

Lapland, Finland. Another stop on her Northern Lights journey, with her ororo gear packed and ready.

Out on the ice. The auroras aren’t the only cold-weather adventure on her list. “Apart from chasing the Northern Lights, I’ve worn my gear ice fishing, and remained comfortable for hours on the ice.”

Jasmine’s Packing Pick

For a traveler, the best gear is the kind that earns its place in the suitcase. For Jasmine, that’s the ororo Women’s Classic Heated Vest in Off-White.

“It’s hard to choose a favorite piece, but if I really have to pick, it would be the ororo Women’s Classic Heated Vest. It doesn’t take up a ton of luggage space and is great for layering. More importantly, the off-white color makes it easy to style with any outfit.”

Her advice for anyone planning a cold-weather trip is simple: “When I’m traveling somewhere cold, ororo helps me stay warm while enjoying bucket-list experiences that require spending a lot of time outside.”
